RUFUS KARANJA
ABOUT ME
I am a development and humanitarian professional with over 14 years of experience working at the intersection of forced migration, human rights advocacy, and durable solutions for displacement-affected communities across East and the Horn of Africa.
My work bridges policy and practice. I focus on ensuring that solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons are not only debated at policy level, but co-designed with affected communities, implemented in real contexts, and assessed for impact. This approach has shaped my work across humanitarian response, development programming, and regional policy engagement.
Alongside my technical expertise, I am deeply engaged in curating and facilitating high-quality dialogue. I regularly moderate panels, workshops, and conferences, creating spaces where policy actors, practitioners, and people with lived experience can engage meaningfully. I strongly believe that credible solutions emerge when diverse voices and expertise are brought into the same conversation.
I currently work with the Embassy of Switzerland in Kenya, where I manage humanitarian and development programmes implemented by UN agencies and international and national NGOs, supporting displaced and host communities across the region (Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia).
